Home Insurance: have you got the right type?
Price Comparison Websites (PCW) have the perceived benefit that they save visitors time, effort and money. You could be forgiven for thinking it sounds too good to be true.
In 2014 the Financial Conduct Authority conducted extensive consumer research that highlighted a number of concerns with PCW.
One of these concerns were regarding the various add-ons found when completing a fact find on the PCW is confusing. For example, people guess the rebuild cost of their property is based on the re sale value of their property even though it is typically much lower. Please see ‘True Value of Household contents’ below.
Another concern was a false sense of security for customers borne out of brand familiarity. However, this misses the point that product features and benefits are often very different and needs to be matched by the needs of the individual.
The outcome is that many homeowners are maybe ending up with the wrong level of cover.
There is also the risk that unless you have the right type of insurance in place to protect probably your most valuable assets, your home and contents, you could find yourself ineligible when it comes to making a claim.
So this all begs the question, ‘Why not let an adviser do it instead?’.
